Medal of Honor Presentation

This month’s Happy Hour guest speaker will be Tom Starr. Tom Starr currently serves as an Honor Guide at the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas. A Vietnam Veteran and he was the recipient of a Bronze Star Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster among other awards. 


He is the author of They Never Heard the Final Shot, with a sub-title of After 50 Years – "The Truth About Vietnam".

Tom served as the Executive Director of four college football post-season football games and was named College Football Bowl Executive of the Year twice and was awarded the College Football Bowl Association Legacy Award in 2023. The Armed Forces Bowl Most Valuable Player Trophy is named in his honor.


He is a graduate of the University of Iowa and received a Master’s Degree at Iowa State University. He is also a graduate of the ESPN School of Business and the U.S. Army Adjutant General School. Tom and his wife, Cathy, reside in Fort Worth.


The Dallas-Fort Worth area was fortunate to be awarded the National Medal of Honor Museum over several other cities who made a bid to become home to this very prestigious structure.

Tom will explain how DFW was chosen from a list of the other final contenders and will also discuss the unique architecture of the National Medal of Honor Museum, named the #1 new museum in the United States last year. 


The primary focal point of his presentation will be the discussion of some intriguing stories involving various recipients and the offering of factual information about the medal itself.
